What the blurb for one of my 1st talks will be
“I have 413 Facebook friends and in one week I saw more then 100 of them in RL. I wanted to create a work of art about virtual friends so to do that I visited them in person. I got a picture of me with lost friends, childhood buddies, ex girlfriends, family, and people from high school I didn’t talk to. I asked them about their RL friends, asked for a physical souvenir, and took their...

facebook allows you to stay in contact with people you don’t necessarily desire staying in contact with.

How to read pulse-- →
I was a little concerned because I had trouble finding my pulse in my wrist. I really didn’t want to be so confrontational that I touch a persons neck. This site helped me find it. I thought ‘how many places in the wrist could the pulse hide.’ Well it turns out the pulse is off to the thunk side of you wrist. I was checking the center. wrong :)

Thesis in a Nutshell
Art work physicality allows connection to artist —> when the creator is a group such as in a social community a greater level of connectivity is possible —> a connection can be emotional —> heart rate is used to represent love, individuality, and mortality —> heart rate is used to control pulse of lightning bugs which represent synchronicity and virtual and almost mystical connectivity...

long time, no update
I know it’s been a long time since an update. My project has changed directions a few times in the last week, which might be all the more reason to post updates, however i found it tough to keep up with the speed the project was adjusting. I will post a few updates this week regarding the circuitry, the programming, and where the project sits conceptually. My project is getting more exciting...

What is My Interest in Lightning Bugs?
When I was about 16 years old i was walking back from a local carnival. In the street I saw a lightening bug hovering about 4 feet off the ground. Lightning bugs have always caught my attention and captured my interest. This particular one was strange because it was by itself and in the middle of the road. It slowly pulsed on and off and I watched it for about 5 minutes. It was only visible when...

Great Advice
Among the best advice I’ve gotten so far was to scale down my project to the smallest denomination. every time i tell someone my project the reaction is somewhere around “wow, yea, good luck with that.” If I can scale it down to a point where i can make the easiest component functional then I can just say that I’m done with he project, and everything on top is just further...

The dial will control the position of the bug and the users heart rate will be used to dictate the lightning bugs glowing pulse. The pieces will possess a painterly quality and will show the...

WatchWatch
Sean helped to inspire the concept of using the heart-rate in my project. This fit so well b/c the heart is the perfect way to individualize someone as well as represent their feelings and emotions. He has a lot of great ideas as to how to use biological sensors for digital means and is a source of great creative and artistic inspiration.
